Mug life porn10/9/2023 DuPont, the company that makes Teflon, stopped using PFOA for nonstick pans in 2012, and several companies stopped producing PFOA for any purpose at the end of 2015. It’s a carcinogen and has been in the news lately because it’s a persistent environmental pollutant and can cause birth defects in people who drink contaminated water. PFOA, perfluorooctanoic acid, is a compound that companies used to use to make PTFE. PTFE is inert, stable up to 500 ☏, and if you ingest any, it will pass through your body intact. Teflon, aka PTFE, aka polytetrafluoroethylene, is what makes some cups and pans nonstick. But I reached out to both companies and learned that this is because liquids can expand in the freezer and cause the mug to explode freezing won’t affect insulation. The instructions for the Avex or Contigo mugs say not to freeze them (which I learned, of course, after freezing them).
